Christmas Pictures

Well 11:00 last night was the only time John and I could find to do Christmas pictures (truthfully it was John who could only do it at 11:00, I think he thought he would get out of it if he gave me such a ridiculous time.... but oh no baby.... you can't get out of it that easy!) Anyway it was quite a fiasco, I forgot to pick up the tri-pod from my parents, so I had to keep stacking things on top of one another until I got it the right height. And I forgot to get batteries, and of course the ones that I had in my camera worked for about 2 pictures and then went dead, so we emptied every remote we could find, dug through every drawer, and purse, and finally came up with enough batteries to get some pictures done. After all the fuss, they didn't turn out that great.... I like the test ones the best. I think they are kinda cute, do you think our family will mind if they don't see our faces on our Christmas card?

cleaning house

Well these photos are a bit random, but I was cleaning up my computer and found some images that I have never posted about. Here they are.... enjoy..... and have a wonderful turkey (or in my case non-turkey day)!

I know that this room has been on other blogs, but I just love it. The colors are so soothing, and the room has a great feeling.

I am instantly drawn to rooms like this.... clean, bed crisply made, and sun pouring in from the windows (maybe that is because my room is never free of laundry, and my bed rarely gets made)!

I love everything about this house.... I am ready to move in today, please! The awnings, shutters and the details on the shutters, the GREAT front door... in Tiffany blue!!!!

With winter creeping in, I especially love this back yard, is it bad to say that I am ready for summer?

I kept this room because I love the chairs, and the red on the door, widow and cabinet. In fact, when our kitchen is done, I think I am going to try and paint my cabinets red.

I love the crispness of the colors of these rooms, and I am sure that I could not resist them because they are red and yellow (two of my favorite colors). I think these rooms are great because they are traditional, with a very fun twist. I could see both of them for a little girls room, a guest room, or even my bedroom for that matter.
Wouldn't you love to wake up to such a cheery room?

29th Birthday

Happy Birthday Baby!
I love you, and I love that for the next 4 months you are older than me!

To my friend at Lowes

This post is for the guy at Lowes who snickered at me when he asked what I was going to be making out of the 1 x 12 pieces of lumber I was so carefully examining, and I replied proudly "shutters!"
I told you I could do it!
I explained to you why I didn't want the plastic ones that were already made for me... and now I am sure you can see why I needed to make them myself, as your options for me just wouldn't be as charming.
I know you didn't quite understand why I wanted hinges to hang them from, when just screwing them to the house would be much easier. (what is the point of shutters if they don't work?)
I am not mad at you, I just wanted to warn you, so that you could in turn, warn all your co-worker, that when I come in, and I have some crazy idea, please do not snicker at me... because I will follow through with my crazy idea... and it will be great!
Thanks, see you this weekend!

Summer by the Lake Swimsuit GIVEAWAY!!!!

Summer by the Lake Swimsuit GIVEAWAY!!!!

Cabin Weekend

A few weekends ago, we celebrated my dear friend Quinn's upcoming wedding at a quaint little cabin in northern Minnesota.
Sun, sand, water, beer and a game of Scrabble on the beach... what more could you ask for?

The events came to an end with a flight lesson and a tour of the lakes from the sky. What a great weekend!

For the love of white

Well, this is what is keeping me up tonight; thoughts of a fresh pallet for my house. I love this house found on Martha's house tour. Every room feels clean and uncluttered, but it definitely doesn't feel boring. What do you think?

Ashley's Shark Week

I think my lovely sister ( I make a lot of noise ) should make these cupcakes in honor of shark week.

Small and cozy

A great house doesn't need to be big, I actually prefer a small and cozy house to a large one. www.rosschapin.com has great house plans for small houses and cottages. This house is one of the larger ones, but all of them have a great layout and charming features. I have been visiting their website daily and dreaming "small".

How to pop a wheelie

How to pop a wheelie

1. practice on a flat road, trail or grassy field
2. shift to one of your middle gears and start pedaling slowly
3. crank down hard onto one of your pedals and shift your body weigh to the back of your seat
4. pull back on the handlebars while your weight is shifted back, and watch your front wheel rise in the air. The more you lean back on your seat, the higher you'll be able to wheelie.
5. lean forward on your bike and push the handlebars down to get your front wheel back on the ground

A Sunny Welcome

The weather has been way to nice to be inside lately, so the other day I woke up and decide I was going to paint our front door. I love the color combo; pewter gray and saffron yellow (and yellow is my favorite color) so of course my front door should be yellow. At first I was a little hesitant about choosing such a vibrant color for our front door, but after I got done and stepped back to take a look at my work, a smile immediately stretched its way across my face. I feel like anyone who comes up to our house now, already gets a cheerful welcome before we even answer our door.
My sister and I spent a well deserved day shopping today, and on our way to our favorite shops we realized that we both had been thinking about learning to embroider. At our first stop we came across a great book on what else but embroidery!

I haven't decided what my first project will be yet, but as soon as I get something finished I will definitely post it for you.

The things that make me smile

How could you not fall in love with this face? Norton is his name and he is the sweetest thing you will ever meet. Everybody that knows him says so! I am pretty proud of my flower boxes this year, I was just tickled pink because early one morning I was sitting on my front porch and I over heard two old ladies out for their morning walk comment on how pretty they were. (I wanted to run out and hug them) This is the first year I chose all the plants and planted them myself (my mother-in-law has taught me well).I also love driving up to my house and seeing my awnings. I stole them off of my mom's house (with her permission). Ever time I see them I smile, they add the charming little touch we needed on some bare windows.
I also had to post a picture of my picket fence with its banners, I was very excited this year because I actually remembered that I had them stashed away down in our basement in time for the 4th of July. (Usually it is when I am getting fall decorations out that I spot them and am heartbroken because yet another year had gone by and I didn't get a chance to use them.)
So there you have it folks these are a few of the things that make me smile, I am pretty easy to please.

Happy Holidays

Have a great 4th of July!
